Saluting the heroes who laid down their lives for Bharat.

It was indeed a sad day for India as the chopper-carrying CDS Gen Rawat, his wife, and eleven defense personnel crashed minutes before the scheduled landing at Wellington. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members. Our country has lost a master strategist and tactician who for the first time since independence, was giving shape to the idea of an integrated services command for better coordination between the army, navy, and airforce. For a man who thought out of the box and never minced his words, the angels came down sooner than expected.

In hindsight, the distance between Sulur Airbase and Wellington was just around 80 km. Tamil Nadu had been experiencing inclement weather for the last two months, lashed by incessant rains. The personnel had an option to cover the distance by road in around two and a half hours. Extremely unfortunate!

This post would be incomplete if I did not mention the trolls and tweets of a few individuals who were rejoicing at the tragic incident.

They put their lives on the line so that people like you and me would be safe. They were the first to face the bullets and defend the nation. They certainly don’t deserve to be treated this way.

I am reminded of the words of a great man who said,

“Never speak ill of a person who is no more. Had he been alive, he would have defended himself. Since he is not around, who will defend him?"

Rest in peace my brave soldiers.
